YIZHEN CHEN

Yizhen Chen is a promising young pianist from China who has received numerous awards in competitions across the United States and East Asia. Most recently, he won the Gold Medal at the 2024 Wideman International Piano Competition in Shreveport, Louisiana. In 2025, he will appear with the South Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, followed by the season-opening concert with the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra. His exceptional artistry has been recognized by renowned pianists such as Richard Goode, Robert Levin, and Lang Lang. He has performed at major international venues including the Sydney Opera House, Shanghai Concert Hall, and the Oriental Art Center in Shanghai, captivating audiences with his expressive and compelling performances.

Born in Ningbo, China, Yizhen began his musical journey at the age of three. After graduating from the Middle School Affiliated to the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, he moved to New York City to continue his studies. He earned his Bachelor of Music degree from the Mannes School of Music under the guidance of Vladimir Valjarević. He is currently pursuing his Master of Music degree at The Juilliard School, where he is a recipient of the Van Cliburn Scholarship. At Juilliard, he studies with Dr. Yoheved Kaplinsky and receives additional mentorship from Nicolas Namoradze, continually refining his artistry and broadening his musical vision.
