Manhattan-born violinist Sophia Steger is a graduate of The Juilliard School and is currently pursuing her master's at the Yale School of Music.

Ayoun Alexandra Kim

CELLO JUNIOR FACULTY

Ayoun Alexandra Kim received her bachelor’s degree from the Juilliard School in 2020 and is continuing her studies at Juilliard for her master’s degree under the tutelage of Natasha Brofsky and Astrid Schween. She began studying the cello in South Korea and continued her studies with Hans Jørgan Jensen in the states in 2012. Most recently, she became the winner of the 2022 Yamaha Young Performing Artist Competition and the 2022 Artist Presentation Society Competition, and prize winners of the 2021 American Virtuoso International Music Competition and King’s Peak Music Competition. Ayoun has attended festivals such as Sarasota Music Festival, Kneisel Hall, and Orford Music Academy. She performed for cellists such as Laurence Lesser, Steven Doane, Myung-Wha Chung, and Frans Helmerson. Outside of the U.S., she attended festivals such as AlpenKammerMusik, Verão Classico, and the Sommerakademie Mozarteum where she performed for cellists Rebecca Gilliver, Gary Hoffman, and Maria Kliegel. Passionate about sharing music outside of the concert halls, she was a Gluck Community Service Fellow and is a Morse Teaching Artist Fellow at Juilliard to contribute to making classical music more accessible.

22-year-old violinist Jason Moon is a graduate of The Juilliard School and is currently pursuing his master's at the Colburn School.

VIOLIN JUNIOR FACULTY

Twenty-two-year-old Jason Moon is a recent graduate of the Juilliard School, where he completed his Bachelor of Music Degree under the tutelage of Li Lin. A native of the Bay Area, he graduated in 2017 from the Menlo School and the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra for four seasons, with which he performed as principal.

Jason has won numerous competitions in the Bay Area including the Peninsula Symphony Youth Musicians’ Competition and the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition. Since then, he won first prize in the Ronald Sachs International Music Competition and was a semifinalist in the Schadt String Competition and the International Jasha Heifetz Competition. He has performed as soloist with the San Francisco Symphony and Peninsula Symphony Orchestra, among others. He has furthermore had the pleasure of working with and performing in masterclasses for such renowned artists as Midori, Miriam Fried, Joseph Kalichstein, and the Borromeo and Miro String Quartets.

An avid chamber musician, Jason performs regularly as a member of the Adonis Piano Quartet alongside his colleagues at Juillaird. He has also performed at several summer festivals, including the Taos School of Music, Heifetz International Music Institute’s Ashkenasi/Kirshbaum Chamber Seminar, and Four Seasons Winter Workshop. He will begin his graduate studies at the Colburn School with Martin Beaver in the fall of 2022.

Nuoya Zhang

PIANO JUNIOR FACULTY

Chinese pianist Nuoya Zhang is a graduate of the Juilliard School, where he completed her Bachelor of Music Degree under the tutelage of Jerome Lowenthal. Nuoya obtained her Master’s degree from Mannes School of Music in 2019, where she studied with J. Y. Song. During her time at Mannes, she received the President Merit Scholarship, the Steinway&Sons Awards and was invited as featured artist at the Mannes Sounds Festivals – performing new
music works including Joan Tower’s No Longer Very Clear and Michael Schelle’s Hammerstein.
Ms. Zhang is currently completing her doctoral degree in piano at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) on a full scholarship, working as studio teaching assistant of her piano teacher, Awadagin Pratt.
